Nos primeiros meses após a revitalização da avenida Euler de Azevedo, na Capital, já houve redução de 65% no número de acidentes trânsito ao longo da via, que durante anos foi alvo de reclamações pela falta de segurança. As obras do Governo do Estado atenderam a antigas reivindicações dos moradores da região e motoristas, com a instalação de sinalização, duplicação da via e recapeamento do asfalto.
“O problema era a avenida toda. Não tinha acostamento, em alguns pontos acumulava água, o asfalto não estava em boas condições, era remendo em cima de remendo e direto acontecia acidente aqui”, lembra o instrutor de autoescola Thiago Diogo, 31 anos, que trabalha e mora na região e agora comemora o aumento da segurança na via.
A revitalização da avenida foi concluída no mês de junho deste ano e, desde então, foram registrados 13 acidentes no local, segundo dados de relatório do Departamento Estadual de Trânsito de Mato Grosso do Sul (Detran-MS). Já no mesmo período de 2015, entre junho e setembro, cerca de um ano antes do início das obras, o número de colisões somava quase o triplo: 37.
“Na minha opinião, ficou ótimo. Colocaram a sinalização que não tinha. Deu mais segurança para gente poder transitar pela avenida. Até essa mureta deu mais segurança, a gente fica protegido”, avalia o funileiro Edemilson Farias, 67 anos.
O empresário Eduardo Gomes, 33 anos, lembra que um acidente com caminhão, em 14 de setembro, só não foi pior graças às muretas de contenção que foram instaladas para separar as pistas e garantir a segurança dos usuários da via. “O que parou o caminhão foi a mureta, senão tinha invadido a outra pista e batido em outros carros, até pedestres”, conta.
O chefe do setor de fiscalização do Detran, André Canuto, esclarece que “até aconteceram alguns acidentes depois da reforma, mas foram causados pela imprudência do condutor, que abusa da velocidade e não respeita a sinalização”. Ele avalia que a obra aumentou a segurança na via não só para os motoristas, mas também para os pedestres. “A questão da segurança na avenida era uma preocupação. Não tinha um sinaleiro, quem precisava atravessar a via encontrava dificuldades e os pedestres também corriam perigo, sem local adequado para passar”, lembra.
Moradora da região, Jéssica da Silva Teixeira, 28 anos, todos os dias precisa atravessar a avenida Euler de Azevedo para chegar até o ponto de ônibus e ir para o serviço. Antes da revitalização, ela conta que “precisava esperar os carros e contar com a boa vontade dos motoristas”, mas agora, com a instalação de semáforo e faixa de pedestre, consegue fazer a travessia da pista com “segurança, sem correr riscos”.
Problema antigo
Canuto destaca que as adequações e melhorias no trânsito da avenida eram uma necessidade antiga, já que a via recebe diariamente grande fluxo de veículos. “É uma via com grande fluxo de trânsito e acesso a vários prédios públicos, como o Detran, Uems [Universidade Estadual de Mato Grosso do Sul] e Agraer [Agência de Desenvolvimento Agrário e Extensão Rural]. Já fazia um bom tempo que a avenida precisava ser revitalizada”, afirma.
A Euler de Azevedo é utilizada diariamente como rota para quem vai a Rochedo e para as rodovias BR-163 e BR-262, além de ser acesso para populosos bairros como o conjunto José Abrão, Vila Nasser e Zé Pereira. Proprietário de uma oficina de motocicletas, Wilson José Vieira, 47 anos, afirma que diariamente clientes paravam no local para reclamar que tinham furado o pneu ou estragado o veículo devido às más condições do asfalto. “Diminuiu esse tipo de problema, o asfalto está novo”, relata.
As obras foram iniciadas em julho de 2016, com investimento do Governo do Estado de R$ 17,5 milhões, oriundos do Fundo de Desenvolvimento do Sistema Rodoviário de Mato Grosso do Sul (Fundesul). Entre as melhorias, a avenida teve a pista duplicada, o asfalto foi recapeado e foram instaladas muretas de contenção, cinco semáforos, faixas de pedestre, sendo duas passarelas elevadas (traffic calming).
